The Oya district, located in the northwestern part of Utsunomiya City, has long been engaged in the mining of Oya stone, a tuff formed by an undersea volcanic eruption about 15 million years ago.
The “Oya stone Culture” that has taken root here has been recognized as a Japanese Heritage Site.
